WE GREW FROM
SEED.
Established in 1991, Terregen began as a small seed business supplying native and ornamental seed to nurseries throughout Australia and overseas.
As Australia’s rehabilitation industry grew, so did the demand for native seed. Our field teams travelled across eastern and northern Australia, harvesting seed for mining, transport and urban infrastructure rehabilitation projects.
That early seed experience remains central to who we are today. It gives us a practical understanding of species, sites and establishment conditions, and continues to shape the way we approach seed supply, rehabilitation contracting and long-term maintenance.
In the early years, field results were not always matching the quality of the seed being supplied.
We wanted to understand why viable, quality-tested native seed was not establishing reliably on site. Visits to client mine sites showed that the issue was often not the seed itself, but the equipment, timing and application methods being used in the field.
Too much valuable seed was being placed too deeply, left exposed, or applied in conditions that did not support germination and establishment.
That experience changed the direction of our business.
We saw the need for a more specialist, practical approach to mining rehabilitation, one that considered seed, site conditions, equipment, soil preparation, timing and long-term establishment together.
That thinking still shapes Terregen today.
Starting with a small dozer, a tractor and a range of purpose-built seeding and tilling equipment, Terregen grew by trialling, learning and improving in the field.
Over time, our contracting capability expanded alongside our seed knowledge. Today, Terregen brings together specialist people, compliant systems and practical equipment to deliver seed supply, rehabilitation earthworks, soil preparation, erosion control, establishment and long-term maintenance.
That combination of field experience and environmental understanding is what allows us to help clients solve practical land recovery challenges.
Our seed business remains at the heart of Terregen.
From seed harvesting through to sowing, our goal is to achieve better establishment with fewer seeds. Native seed is a precious and limited resource, and we believe every seed should be used carefully and given the best possible chance to succeed.
That is why we continue to learn, trial and improve — combining practical field experience with knowledge from science, agriculture and mining to achieve better rehabilitation outcomes.
